Started in 2013 by Jonathan Stack and Dr. Doug Stein, World Vasectomy Day was created to inform people about vasectomies and inspire men to engage in the conversation about family planning. Now going into it’s second annual observance, World Vasectomy Day is November 7.
What is the Goal?
World Vasectomy Day’s goal is to promote a greater understanding and participation of family planning by men. It is designed to dispel myths about vasectomies and raise awareness of how the procedure can enhance the lives of those who decide it is the right decision for them.
Why Support World Vasectomy Day?
There are many reasons why someone would choose to have a vasectomy. Here are a few of the reasons why some men will participate in World Vasectomy Day:
• For men who no longer want children, it is the most effective option.
• Men should share the responsibility of family planning.
• A vasectomy is less invasive than tubal ligation and healthier than taking hormones or chemicals.
• Eliminating the fear of unintended pregnancy can improve your sex life.
A vasectomy is a simple, office-based procedure that is usually preformed under local anesthesia. It is the safest, easiest, and least expensive form of birth control and is performed between 175,000 to 500,000 times a year. For men looking to eliminate the risk of unintended pregnancy, this procedure is the best decision for you and/or your family.
At Philadelphia Urology Associates, we use a technique known as No Scalpel Vasectomy, which was designed to simplify the procedure and reduce the pain that might be associated with vasectomy.
