UroLift®

UroLift Treatement for BPH

For many men, an enlarged prostate can be a major problem. Medications may stop working and surgery can have lasting side effects. Now, there’s a new FDA-approved treatment on the scene, using a surprisingly simple principle. The UroLift® System treatment is a minimally invasive approach to treating an enlarged prostate, or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), that lifts or holds the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way so it no longer blocks the urethra. There is no cutting, heating or removal of prostate tissue.

At Philadelphia Urology Associates, Dr. Sloane now offers this revolutionary treatment to his patients. He will begin by finding the cause of your issues. To do this he will ask you about your symptoms and past health followed up by a physical exam. A digital exam, blood tests and ultrasound are the typical ways he would determine whether it’s BPH, although there are some other methods including a digital rectal exam.

Once it is determined that the treatment UroLift® may benefit you, we will prepare you for the simple procedure. During the treatment, tiny implants are placed to hold the prostate lobes apart, like open curtains on a window, to relieve compression on the urethra. This allows urine to flow normally again.

Benefits of this system include:

  • Straightforward procedure
  • Minimally invasive
  • Minimal downtime
  • Typically no catheter or overnight stay required after treatment
  • Preservation of sexual function
  • Durable results
  • Rapid symptom relief, as early as 2 weeks post procedure
